We are looking for a to join our Mission and System Engineering team in our Budapest office. You will be responsible for planning and developing spacecraft missions, including designing trajectories, optimizing spacecraft performance, and conducting trade studies. This role involves creating mission concepts, analysing trade-offs for aspects like technical and technological feasibility, and ensuring the mission meets customer needs.
Mission Design Engineer
Key responsibilities

Mission architectural concept definition, trade-off of different alternatives, baseline determination

Keeping contact with external stakeholders, clients and vendors

Managing Client requirements, requirement elicitation and documentation

Definition and assessment of space trajectories, orbit determination
-
Definition of mission scenarios and execution of mission analysis
-
Analysis of nominal and contingency scenarios
-
Definition and development of spacecraft operational modes and mode transitions
-
Definition of mission requirements, and system requirements associated with spacecraft operability and FDIR aspects

Analysis of failure modes and support definition and implementation of FDIR strategies and associated validation

Support spacecraft nominal and off-nominal procedures development (Mission Control Center procedures)

Support Space Segment and Ground Segment development and system tests execution

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the launch and early orbit phase of new satellites

Support conventional system engineering activities, like requirement engineering, system architectural design, failure analyses, verification, validation, testing
Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering, computer science or a related field
- Relevant experience or studies in space industry or research in mission analysis, system engineering, or orbit design
- Understanding of space trajectories and orbits
- Understanding of spacecraft operational concepts
- Knowledge of mission analysis tools (e.g. Ansys STK)
- Knowledge of requirement management and related tools (eg.: Polarion)
- Knowledge about Mission and/or System Engineer activities and their involvement in development projects
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure
- Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- Fluent in English (language of work)
Considered a Plus
- Master’s degree in space systems engineering or aerospace engineering
- 4+ years of industry experience in developing complex systems and space concepts
- Understanding of autonomy concepts and FDIR approach
- Knowledge in flight dynamics discipline
- Knowledge in satellite communications discipline
- Strong understanding of satellite subsystems, including power, propulsion, attitude control, communication, and payload
- Experience in mission concept studies
- Experience in constellation or multi-satellite mission design
- Experience in conducting orbit design, propagation, and station-keeping analysis
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in satellite operations, including ECSS, NMHH or ITU regulations
