Rough Layout Lead / Previs Lead
Responsibilities
- Lead the previs and rough layout team across one or multiple projects
- Translate directorial vision and story intent into clear, cinematic previs and layout
- Define shot language, camera work, staging, and pacing in collaboration with directors and editorial
- Oversee task planning, prioritization, and delivery in coordination with production
- Review and give clear, constructive feedback on team work to maintain quality and consistency
- Actively contribute as a Rough Layout Artist as scheduled by production
- Identify potential storytelling, technical, or scheduling issues early and propose solutions
- Ensure previs outputs are usable and valuable for downstream departments (animation, VFX, layout, production)
- Support and mentor artists, helping them grow both creatively and technically
- Contribute to workflow development, pipeline improvements, and best practices within the department
Essential Skills
- Several years of professional experience in previs, rough layout, or layout, ideally in film, episodic, or high-end cinematic projects
- Proven experience in a lead or senior role, guiding artists and collaborating closely with directors
- Strong understanding of cinematic storytelling, camera language, composition, and editing principles
- Solid knowledge of production pipelines and how previs supports downstream departments
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools (e.g. Maya, Blender)
- Strong communication skills in English, and ability to work across multiple disciplines
- Organized, proactive, and comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments

- Experience working on AAA cinematics, feature animation, or game cinematics
- Editorial knowledge (timing, shot continuity, storytelling through cuts)
